Pavia
Pavia was the capital of the Longobardic kingdom.
From the Middle Ages is home to one of the oldest Italian universities.
Famous for the “Certosa di Pavia” Cistercian monastery, located about 8 km north of Pavia, dating from the fourteenth century.
One of the most important monuments of late Gothic Italian. The original monastery was located on the edge of the Visconti park north of the Castle of Pavia.
Today remain only parts of the ancient part (the Vernavola Park, north of Pavia) no longer connected to the castle and the Certosa.
